Kinja'd!!!

*I'm getting sick of these GT posts. So here's one more with a bit of depth.

One engine to rule them all...
It's good enough for a sedan, good enough for a crossover, good enough a truck, and now good enough for a hypercar. Using the 3.5 Ecoboost in lieu of the High-revving flat plane 5.2 is a major win for Ford. On the marketing front, because now a little piece of the GT is in a lot of their other products, and on the racing front, because 3.5L is less than 4.0L, which is great for the kind of racing they'll want to do with this car.

Wither Thee V8
So the new hypercar from Ford won't be V8 powered. There are really good reasons for that. But the new Raptor from Ford won't be V8 powered either? Well...this does not say great things for the future of V8 development at Ford. Along with the expedition dropping the V8, these form a string of decisions pushing the V8 further and further out of Ford's overall lineup. It's not hard for me to picture a world where Ford doesn't offer V8 engines anymore. That's bad news for us enthusiasts here and on the 'stang forums, but will joe consumer care about the death of the V8 powered Mustang when he can get one 'with the same engine out of a supercar' in it instead? The Flat plane GT350 is wonderful, but now these reveals leave me wondering if it's also a kind of swan song.

The End of an Era
This is the shape of supercars to come; smaller engines, fewer pistons, more snails and more blowers. It kind of already happened if you look at the 12c and the P1, both V8 powered and turbocharged, and the next 458 is supposed to come with a smaller displacement turbocharged V8 as well. It's only a matter of time until Lamborghini follows suit.

A New Wave Of Bullshit
Not everything about today is good news though; if you drive something known to be fast, you should be prepared to be revved at by everybody in their mom's crossover now shouting out the window, "YOU DON'T WANT NONE BRO! IT'S GOT A SUPERCAR ENGINE UNDER THE HOOD!"

*This is a lie. I will never tire of looking at this ass. Never.

Seriously, I don't see Ford continuing to make V8's for more than 1 more generation. The company that introduced the cheap V8 will also be the first to kill it off.

sad day for the V8, but I don't think the mustang will lose the V8 unless the challenger and camaro drop theirs.

Apparently, I was 1.5 years off. I dub myself "AUTODAUMUS".

I don't see why everyone is whining. Godzilla has a V6 and everyone seems to love that car (just, not its drivers)...

Would it have been possible to lop two cylinders off the flat plane 5.2 and added turbo charging. A 3.9L TT flat plane V6 would have been awesome.

It is called: future upgradability.

The Ford GT, and the Raptor get the EcoBoost.... and it gets all kinds of headlines.

The Shelby GT350R gets all kinds of headlines and limelight for it's new 5.2 flat-crank V8 with 500 horsepower and 400lb-ft.

A while later... after the hype has moved on...

HIT 'EM AGAIN!

Ford GT (whatever upgrade letter, ST, -R, SVT,) gets the 5.2 flat-crank V8, too.

HIT 'EM AGAIN!

Ford Raptor gets the 7-liter big-block modular V8 with a Supercharger.

HIT 'EM AGAIN!

Ford Shelby GT500KR gets a twin-turbo EcoBeast 5.8L V8 or something, to go against Hellcat and Camaro ZL1....

Just because these are the headlines today, doesn't mean that the specs won't get further development, or future special edition models.

Ferrari didn't drop the FXX-K on the same day the introduced the LaFerrari.

Nissan has never put a V8 in anything other than the Titan though. The Skyline has always had six cylinders, it's just in a different configuration for the R35 (most likely to cut development costs as Nissan no longer makes an I6). The whole thing is that hi-po American cars have always had eight or more cylinders. Japanese ones never have had eight. This ecoboost crap they're putting in the new GT is utter blasphemy. I don't care if it gets better fuel economy, the point of a supercar is not to get good fuel economy, it's to go fast and sound awesome. I loved the 03-05 GT, and I'm a Chevy guy. This new GT will never do it for me, simply because it does not have a V8. Same thing with the new Raptor. Screw the Ecoboost.

Maybe I just have no loyalty but I'm not really bothered by the fact that the new GT doesn't have a V8. I watched the EcoBoost DP cars all last year and despite their problems Inthought they were cool as shit.
